Reaching Our City Food Pantry
The Food Pantry is one of the largest pantries of its kind in Oklahoma City. Over 60,000 pounds of food are distributed each month through the distinctive blue awning at the entrance to the Pantry. The largely volunteer staff welcomes families from ten Oklahoma City zip codes, and is open to the public Mondays, Thursdays, Fridays, and every other Saturday at the main campus, and on Wednesdays in the Tulakes neighborhood.
Volunteer counselors meet with each family and individual to assist, discover and support. A grocery basket is then prepared and individualized for each person/family.
The ROC Free Clinic was first established in 1999 as a founding program of the compassionate ministry. The Free Clinic operates on an "all volunteer" basis - volunteer physicians, nurses, physician assistants and other practitioners offer quality medical services to uninsured individuals and families. Services include: physician visits, physical therapy, health education, cancer screening (as available), dental clinic (as available), and immunizations. In an atmosphere of hope and healing, the free medical clinic provides a safe place for many who have lost hope in a broken system.
Variety Care at ROC opened for patients in October of 2010 on the campus of Reaching Our City. Variety Care at ROC is a federally qualified health center (FQHC). Patients of all ages, including children and senior adults, are now able to access affordable medical care on the campus of ROC. Patients with insurance are welcome, including Medicare, Medicaid, SoonerCare, and most major private plans. The FQHC utilizes a sliding scale fee system for patients and families with constrained abilities to pay. For many, a $25 charge is all that's necessary to begin care.
Each Friday the gym is recreated with tables, linens, 100+ chairs, flower arrangements, food, laughter, tears, testimonies, support, education, spiritual challenges and many, many prizes. By 11:30, the gym has transformed into a fashionable restaurant with all the trimming. By noon, everyone has enjoyed a luncheon donated and prepared by one of many sponsoring churches, or by a supporting agency, or by our dedicated staff and volunteers. By 12:30 the ladies have laughed and cried, sharing their heartaches and their joys with each other. And by 1:00, each has been challenged by warm, encouraging, and heartfelt presentations to press on towards a better life.
Started as a women's support group, the Vine has become the center of activity and the start of something new for hundreds of women.
Hundreds of hours of volunteer legal services are provided by appointment each year. Attorneys, affiliated with Legal Aid of Oklahoma, are available with needed advice and assistance.
The Resale Shop
ROC Resale, located at NW 16th and Rockwell, provides affordable clothing, furniture and housewares to our friends and neighbors. The store is an extension of the mission of Reaching Our City. The people of Bethany and Northwest Oklahoma City have established the ROC Resale Shop as a place to share: to share an unused bedroom set with a family that sleeps on the floor; to share one of several coats in the closet with someone who has no coat for the winter; to share a set of family dishes with a family whose cupboard is empty. Generous people sharing - deserving people receiving.
The Child Development Center serves the community by offering affordable, quality child care to our neighbors and friends. About 95% of families served receive OKDHS assistance. Through partnerships with area agencies, child programs have been enriched with opportunities for quality speech therapy, behavioral therapies, nutritional therapies, and after-school mentoring. Most of the summer months are filled with VBS programs and day camps as area churches and other organizations assist our staff with special activities.
